Description

The Cure is an English rock band formed in Crawley, West Sussex in 1976. Initially known as Easy Cure, the band evolved into The Cure with the departure of Porl Thompson and the addition of Simon Gallup and Matthieu Hartley. The band is known for its influential role in the post-punk, gothic rock, and alternative rock genres, with Robert Smith being the only constant member throughout its history.

Early Years (1976-1979):

The band formed at St. Wilfrid's Catholic secondary school as Easy Cure, with Robert Smith, Michael Dempsey, Lol Tolhurst, and later Porl Thompson. They began playing their own songs and were signed to Fiction Records in 1978. Their debut album, Three Imaginary Boys, was released in 1979.

Special Instructions

Michael Dempsey left the band and was replaced by Simon Gallup, with Matthieu Hartley joining on keyboards. This lineup explored darker, more experimental sounds, culminating in the album Seventeen Seconds and the hit single "A Forest". The band further solidified their gothic rock identity with the album Pornography.
